Palazzo Zorzi Venice

The Palazzo Zorzi is a historic building in the Castello district of Venice. It actually consists of two buildings, the Palazzo Zorzi-Bon and the Palazzo Zorzi-Galeoni. The palace is the current seat of the Venetian branch of UNESCO.

The address of the Palazzo Zorzi is Castello 4907 (Palazzo Zorzi-Bon) and Castello 4930 (Palazzo Zorzi-Galeoni) – 30122 Venice. Ferry: San Zaccaria (blue line). The building can only be viewed from the outside.

History and description

The Palazzo Zorzi-Bon was built in the 13th century while the Palazzo Zorzi-Galeoni dates back to the 15th century. The two buildings have identical balconies that were added later. A corridor underneath the building leads to the Calle del Arco.

The Palazzo Zorzi-Galeoni was designed by Mauro Codussi and has a courtyard unusual for Venice. External frescoes were discovered during a restoration, di belonged to an earlier, Gothic version of the building.

In the 18th century the Zorzi family moved to the Procuratie and the palace was rented out.

Nowadays it is the Venetian seat of UNESCO.
